Louisa County Ag Fair
August 2-4, 2012
The Old Dominion Draft Horse and Mule Association received an invitation to the Louisa County Fair. We were invited to bring some gentle giants for demonstrations on Saturday, August 4th. We provided harnessing, driving and obstacle course demonstrations with the forecart and sled. Thank you to Mary and Junior Haney for supplying the farm equipment on display throughout the day.
The Louisa County Fair is truly an agricultural fair. There are no rides and amusements, but plenty of pure country fun. Fair guests were invited to enjoy the FFA Barbeque, live bands, 4-H projects, games and contests and much more.
ODDHMA members Mary and Junior Haney, Billy Slingerland, Lee Redifer and Cheryl Sgarrella arrived early Saturday morning. After unloading the horses and putting them in their pens, we quickly set up the obstacle course and ODDHMA t-shirt booth. We visited with our spectators and answered all questions. Thank you to our t-shirt booth volunteers for the day, ODDHMA members Clarice and Bernard Perkins and Donna and Jack Henshaw.
Since we had a little time for fun and games before our demonstrations, Mary and Junior participated in the cross cut saw contests, Lee Redifer participated in the hay bale toss and nail driving contest, and Jack participated in the cross cut saw contests and the nail driving contest. There were additional games and contests for kids and adults including tug of war, kid’s and adult corn hole tournament, toddler trot and baby crawling contest, tire races and much more.
Everyone took time to enjoy the animals and view some of the 4-H shows throughout the day. The arts and craft exhibits of the local youth demonstrated the up and coming “local” talents! A variety of entertainment and food was also available.
It was a terrific family event that showcased farm life in Louisa County. If you have never experienced this fair, plan on attending next year…..you will not be disappointed! |
