On Saturday, June 25th, ODDHMA members and guest met at the Compton’s Farm in Rixeyville, Virginia to enjoy a beautiful summer day for a wonderful wagon ride and drive. After the teamsters hitched to their wagons and our single rider mounted around 9:15 a.m., we started off crossing the dam to the large pond and we wound our way through the green pastures towards the main entrance of the farm. Entering onto the main paved roads, we encountered very little traffic. The terrain provided a good workout for the horses and mules with several hills and provided terrific scenery for the riders. Linda Redifer even spotted a dollar bill on an embankment as we traveled along, which Richard and Linda picked up later! Susan Jacob stopped to let an excited family pet her mule, Jenny. Later, Billy Slingerland picked up hitch hikers from the same excited family and they enjoyed a ride back to the gravel road with us. We really do provide entertainment for all interested individuals! The round trip from the staging area, was approximately 5.5 miles. We were back at the staging area by 11:45 a.m. The ride was mainly at a walk. Even though we left shortly after our advertised time of 9:00 a.m., everyone did a terrific job showing up and being prepared to leave on time. This ride and drive featured a potluck lunch and we had a terrific spread. Hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, coleslaw, macaroni salad, chips, watermelon, desserts galore, drinks and more were enjoyed by all. We enjoyed great company and an easy camaraderie was had by all. All in all it was a delightful day! With the success of this wagon ride and drive, we are looking forward to our next ride, with many promising to return! Please check our trail & wagon rides page for details! Feedback:
